A common response to dealing with serious illness or stress is for the person to question where he or she is on their life journey Past, present and future issues may be considered in a heightened way. Art therapy is a way to reflect on these questions but in a pro-active way, through clay or paint or drawing.
Art itself carries healing qualities , and by entering the creative process, accompanied and supported by the therapist, the individual may find the courage to face these life questions through their artwork. Art therapy will also help children through difficulties in relationships, family upheaval or school–related issues.
Through nourishment of the soul life, physical problems may be eased and understood; just as stresses on the soul can cause physical symptoms, so may food for the soul ease the body. Art therapy is a process of reclaiming ones own self-determination of overcoming fear and anxiety and accessing the creative self that lives in each and every one of us.
